Udaipur Smart City Ltd. (USCL) is a special purpose vehicle formed under the Smart Cities Mission, a flagship program of the Government of India launched in 2015 with the objective of developing sustainable and inclusive cities across the country. USCL was incorporated in 2016 with a vision to transform Udaipur, a city located in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, into a smart and livable city.
The mission of USCL is to create a sustainable urban ecosystem that is economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. To achieve this goal, USCL is implementing various projects aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure, transportation, public services, and overall quality of life for its citizens. The key focus areas of city. USCL are Heritage Conservation, integrated infrastructure, mobility, water supply, sewerage, solid waste management, etc.
USCL’s heritage conservation project is a major undertaking aimed at preserving culture of Udaipur. The project involves the restoration and revitalization of several historic buildings, monuments, and public spaces in the city.
To address the infrastructure challenges in the walled city of Udaipur, USCL developed an area-based development plan covering 828 acres (3.4 sq.km.) of the city, which is home to 20% of the total population. The plan includes retrofitting the area to international standards of hygiene,
reliability, and quality of essential services such as water, power, and transportation to make it more resilient to future growth pressures.
The Command & Control Centre is created to monitor and control various city services, including traffic management, emergency response, and public safety. USCL has also implemented various projects to promote sustainable mobility, such as the development of Smart Roads, construction of 100 bus shelters & parking projects across the city, Junction improvements, development of dedicated bicycle lanes, PBS Stations, etc. These initiatives have helped to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in the
